A GPS Kind of Faith

Maps are pretty convenient, aren't they?  If you are going on a trip, you get one out and figure out where you are going, and how to get there.  You can see the different routes you can take, and guess which ones will get you there quickest, or more conveniently.
Now, we have GPS systems.  With a GPS, you can't see the whole map.  You are just taken step by step, and turn by turn.  You don't have to plan much.  You type in your destination, and trust that that little device is going to get you exactly where you need to go.  Mine is ALWAYS accurate.  If you take a wrong turn, it tells you exactly how to get back on track.

Proverbs 16:9
We can make our plans, but the LORD determines our steps.

When we allow God to lead our lives, and direct our paths, we are accepting a GPS kind of faith.  We are accepting the fact that we can make plans in our lives, we can get our maps out and choose our route, but ultimately, God is in charge.

On a trip from Texas to new York, my husband got his map out and in Virginia, decided to take another route than the one he had originally planned.  It appeared to be much shorter.  Little did we know that it was a highway going through the mountains.  It added a couple of hours to our trip.  We think we can see the big picture, but we can not.

Jeremiah 29:11
For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

When you trust God, you don't need to see the whole map.  You just follow him step by step.  Turn when he tells you to turn.  And trust that he knows the absolute best way for you to reach your destination.   We can be confident that when our plans fall through, it is just our loving God getting us back on the path he has set before us.

Proverbs 19:21
Many are the plans in a man's heart, but it is the LORD's purpose that prevails.

Proverbs 20:24
A man's steps are directed by the LORD. How then can anyone understand his own way?
