Have you ever went to your mailbox, pulled the contents out and felt totally overwhelmed? Have you ever wished you would open at least one of those bills and saw a big stamp across it that said "Paid in Full"? Wouldn't it be nice if some wealthy benefactor decided to pay off all the debt of some deserving stranger and you were on the receiving end?
Oh, wouldn't it be nice to be debt free????????
6 When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners. 7 Now, most people would not be willing to die for an upright person, though someone might perhaps be willing to die for a person who is especially good. 8 But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. 9 And since we have been made right in God’s sight by the blood of Christ, he will certainly save us from God’s condemnation. 10 For since our friendship with God was restored by the death of his Son while we were still his enemies, we will certainly be saved through the life of his Son. 11 So now we can rejoice in our wonderful new relationship with God because our Lord Jesus Christ has made us friends of God.
Through Christ, we can be debt free. He has paid our debt in full. The only catch is that instead of him choosing one lucky receipient, it is up to us to choose him. His salvation is an invitation extended to everyone. And unlike the debt that comes and goes that we accumulate here on earth, this debt will never return. We have the choice of course. God doesn't give us a charge card with an unlimited spending limit that he just pays when the bill comes in. He expects us to be responsible. He knows we will fall short, but he is always there to catch us and pick us back up.
So, when you are overwhelmed by bills coming in, wondering how in the world you can pay it all. Remember that the debt that really matters, the one that you will take with you to the grave.....It is Paid in Full! Thank you Jesus!
I am reminded of a song we sang as teenagers:
He paid a debt he did not owe
I owed a debt I could not pay
I needed someone to wash my sins away
And now I sing a brand new song
Christ Jesus paid a debt
that I could never pay
